I was going through some photos and came across the before photos of our kitchen renovation. I always get a little thrill when I see what we started with and look at what we have now… There’s nothing better than a kitchen renovation before and after shot don’t you think? I thought I would share some photos with you…
When we bought our house this is what the kitchen looked like… The lovely couple we bought it from had lived here for nearly 40 years…it was their family home…they raised their children here and enjoyed their grandchildren here too. They had decided to downsize and move to a beautiful new apartment closer to the city. (please excuse the quality of the top two photos they were taken with a camera phone)
As part of the renovation we created doorways, opened doorways (getting rid of archways and making openings bigger), removed bulkheads, changed some plumbing around, rendered a wall, swapped mission brown floor tiles for wooden floor boards and painted white throughout… we are thrilled with the end result. It’s very white but that’s what we wanted. We wanted to keep it neutral and bright, to open up the space as much as possible. I think the wooden floors, the low sheen cabinetry, the natural light and the gorgeous kettle artwork by Deb Mostert help to make the space feel warm and welcoming. It’s a functional, workable kitchen and that’s exactly what we wanted.
BEFORE AND AFTER… These really excite me…
If you’re interested in any of our products or trades… we bought all the appliances from Winning Appliances. They have a terrific range to suit all budgets. We chose Bosch (Oven, Cooktop and Dishwasher), Panasonic (Microwave) and Electrolux (Fridge). The sink and Tap are Franke. The Building works were done by Langlands Building Group. I designed the kitchen with Shaun from Coastline Kitchens and it was made and installed by them. The glass splash back was supplied by Creative Glass.
I’d love to hear from you… Have you done a complete kitchen renovation? How did you find it? Were you happy with the final result? Have you got a kitchen you would love to re do? tell me everything…

Just wondering what colour you used for your splashback. We are in the process of trying to choose a colour and it is really hard.
Also did you go plain paint or shimmer in the glass?

    • Jess - A Little Part of the World says

Hi Shannon, the colour is Dulux White on White (from memory) and we used plain paint with treated glass so it doesn’t throw a green tinge. I hope this helps. Good luck with your renovation. Jx

Thanks Astrid. We love the kitchen and it’s wearing so well. Even after 3 years there is nothing I would change about the design (besides a bigger kitchen full stop 😉 ) Jx

OMG, Jess!!! What a transformation. Very chic and handsome! What are the countertops made of? Not only is your kitchen very beautiful, it is spotless. The architecture is so clean, and I love how the doorways do not have wooden trim / casing. This is really divine, Jessica. Maybe you can source some of the appliances, etc?
