PACKING FOR A SUMMER MINI BREAK

Packing for a summer mini break

Hubby and I are heading off for a mini break this weekend. It’s our first ‘official’ break away from the kids. For a couple of days all we will have to worry about is relaxing, eating and sleeping. I’m just a bit excited at the prospect of all that time to myself/ourselves. Uninterrupted time by the pool, long meals where we don’t get indigestion from inhaling our food due to impatient toddlers, sleep ins… (I know we will still wake early but we DON’T HAVE TO GET UP!!!)

As you can tell I’m quite excited but also anxious about missing the kids and feeling guilty about needing some time out. But, I’m just pushing all of that to the side and focussing on how lucky we are to have help and knowing the kids will be having the best time and being spoilt rotten.

I’m packing my bag today and it got me thinking… what do you pack when you head off for a mini break? This is what will be in my bag…

Dresses… perfect for lounging around during the day over your swimmers and dressing up for dinner out…

Jewellery… I always take minimal jewellery and tend to wear the same thing the whole time with an added bracelet for when I’m not by the pool…

Sandals… I take a neutral pair that go with everything and can take you from day to night with ease. Being in a tropical environment can lend itself to casual dressing so thankfully heels are not needed on this break. I love these sandals

Hat… I have long been a wearer of a baseball cap and recently bought a panama hat. I can’t wait to wear it all day long this weekend. I will still have the baseball cap too for situations of high wind and just for something different. I like this hat (the adjustable wire brim would be great)… and the standard panama

Skincare… you can’t go and sit in the sun and not think of your skin. For sunscreen I love Neutrogena’s wet skin for kids. I lather the kids and us in it. With all that sun you need to think of your eyes and take care of them. My lips always get dry when I travel and Go-To’s Lips! is great…

Fragrance… I never go away with my perfume. I love Annick Goutal’s Gardenia Passion and wear it all the time. It has basically become my signature scent…

Makeup… I don’t wear a lot of makeup when away as I’m always in and out of the water. A perfect trick is a swipe of bright lipstick and sunnies so then you look made-up. This weekend I will be taking my spring beauty update and a couple of these beauty items you need in your life

Sunnies… no trip to a warm and sunny climate is complete without a good pair of sunnies… they don’t have to cost the earth, they just have to look and feel good…

Swimmers… I love my navy swimmers from Seafolly and I’ll also be braving a bikini too… I love what Country Road are doing at the moment too…

Bag… You need a bag big enough for travel and casual enough to take you from the pool to the dinner table…

Thongs… I can’t go past Havaianas… they are perfect for chilling by the pool and kicking around the room…

Reading… One of the things I get most excited about is the ability to read and read and read… This weekend I will  be reading the latest copy of the Renegade Collective and hopefully finishing the reluctant yogi. I’m also a sucker for buying a book at the airport…

What’s on your list when you go away? Have a mini break (or a big break) coming up?…
